Imaging the Sherd

I’ve posted on the site (in the Excavation Log section) a series of pictures of the Ostracon being imaged at HeadWall, CRI, MegaVision, and Cedars-Sinai. I have some video clips of Dr. Greg Bearman and other spectro-physcists talking about the work that was done and will post that soon.

Back in the Land

It was a long trip. From Israel to Paris, to Cuba (got to see the Buena Vista Social Club in person - awesome!), to NY, Stamford CT and Boston, back to NY, LA and Santa Barbara, back to NY, Paris, and finally home. I think it was the longest busiest trip of my life. I can’t really complain as the first 5 days in Cuba were with my wife - it was kinda like the honeymoon we should have had way back when.

The Mystery of Qeiyafa and its identification as Sha’aryaim may now be complete, but the shard with the text remains shrouded in mystery. Dr. Misgav sat with Professor Garfinkel last night and we hope to have some really surprising things to say soon. Imaging the ostracon was a real eye-opener. I’ll be posting soon some of the pics and videos from the trip. We’re now in production on an in-depth high-definition piece on the ostracon that will explain it in great detail. We got the audio down using our fantastic narrator Tom Weiss, at Mitch Clyman’s studio (Muso Productions) in Jerusalem. Mitch is a modern-day Mozart when it comes to sound and a pleasure to work with.

On the video end, Daniel Remer of Remervision Productions sat with me and we prepared a final cut of the Elah Promo video which is now up on the web site. See if you can spot the new editions of the ostracon and the second gate. A second gate overlooking the site of the David & Goliath story fits nicely with the entire context.

Many of the finds from the summer have now been restored and I hope to get some images of that the next time I visit the IAA.

It’s been a heckuva ride so far, and Barnea and I are in for the long haul. There’s more in the pipeline and we invite you to take a look at our other websites - www.foundationstone.org and www.telyavne.com. They will be both be getting an update in the coming days and weeks, but there’s lots of interesting eye candy for your enjoyment.

Foundation Stone is gearing up for another round of excavation at Tel Yavne at the end of the month. Archaeologist Maha Darawashe of Hartford University will be leading a group of volunteers to see if the “Tooth” is another unique find...

stay tuned, stay warm, and stay involved...

One From the Road

Well, I left Israel nearly three weeks ago, managing to visit Havana, and some very cool sites in Cuba. The following week found me in NY, and then I met Barnea, Yossi, Saar, and Dr. Greg Bearman in Boston for some imaging of the Ostracon (and ASOR).

This past week was imaging in Santa Barbara (MegaVision) and in LA (Cedars-Sinai). I’m now back in NY and leave tomorrow night for home. I’ve got some great images, some video, and some newsy stuff to share regarding the Elah Fortress, Qeiyafa, Sha’arayim etc.

Stay tuned...
